1.POSITION
The position of Halien port is at Latitude 23°59' 11" North, and Longitude 121°37' 35" East. It is an international port at the eastern coast of Taiwan.

2.IMPORT / EXPORT GOODS
◎Products imported are mainly wood chips, mineral ore, and granite.
◎Goods exported are mainly gravel, sand, and cement.

3.ENVIRONMENT QUALITY (QUALITY OF AIR AND SEA WATER)
According to the statistics of population of Hualien city and county in April 2004, Density of Hualien county’ population is 75.72 persons per square kilometer, which is much lower than that of other cities and counties except Taitong County (68.83). Hualien County depends mainly on tourism instead of industry. Its river and ocean are far from being polluted than that of other cities. Furthermore, in order to decrease the dusty air due to sand and rock cargo loading, prevent seawater pollution caused by vessels’ waste oil, wastewater, or oil, the Harbor Bureau assembles a variety of dust-preventing equipment and strictly inspects illegal pollution caused by vessels in the port or outer-port seawater. As a result, the air and seawater quality in Hualien Port meet the demand of tourism and leisure business.

4、LEISURE CYCLING TRACK
The length of port surroundings is about 4 kilometers. Cyclers can view the Pacific Ocean, May-Luan Creek, and old railroad along the path. It is a brand new sight-seeing spot when touring Hualien. Various trees have made the entire path a green passage. Giant trees with leafy shades have been planted continually along the road. The track will merge with coastal view and make Hualien Port a genuine scenic and leisure port.

5、WHALE AND DOLPHIN WATCHING ACTIVITIES
Located at the eastern coast of Taiwan, Hualien Port is affected by the merge of Kuroshio and Oyashio (Philippine Current and Japan Current), which brings plenty of aquatic products, ocean plankton, and ocean ecosystem. It is the prime factor of whales and dolphins gathering here searching for food, and constantly attracts tourists sailing out from quality wharfs for whale- and dolphin-watching cruise to enjoy ocean ecosystem tours.

6、FUTURE DEVELOPMENT SCHEME OF HUALIEN PORT
Due to intense competition among ports, Hualien Harbor Bureau implements the civilian operation and information system management policies to ascertain prolonged operations. The Bureau also cooperates with Hualien county government’s related business development policies to offer opportunities of being familiar with water, and expanding tourism. This will not only increase bureau income, but also provides more healthy leisure and entertaining activities for citizens and tourists. One single move can gain two advantages.
